2014 High School Football All-Area Team

Ethan Burger, Soph., RB

Burst onto the scene this season to earn All-FCIAC Western Division honors … Fumbled on his first varsity carry, but bounced back to become the area's only 1,000 yard rusher this season … Finished the season with 1,260 yards on 201 carries (6.3 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns … Had 8 games of 100-plus yards … Only fumbled three more times after that first cough-up … Staples coach Marce Petroccio expects the 5-8, 175-pounder to become a key two-way player for the Wreckers next year.

Jake Melnick, Sr., WR

Was beat-up for much of the season, missing two games, but still managed to catch 24 passes for 670 yards this season (74.4 yards per game) … Of those 24 touchdowns, nine went for touchdowns … Was an All-FCIAC Western Division selection.

Jack Dulskey, Sr., OL

Was named to the All-FCIAC First Team, the only Staples offensive player so honored … The 6-foot, 255-pounder spearheaded an O-line that helped the Wreckers pile up 3,640 total yards this season (2,318 rushing, 1,322 passing) as Staples turned a 1-3 start into a 7-4 season.

Jackson Ward, Jr., OL

The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder was named All-FCIAC Western Division … Was a part of offensive line that helped the Wreckers pile up 3,640 total yards this season (2,318 rushing, 1,322 passing) as Staples turned a 1-3 start into a 7-4 season … Also saw time on defense.

Paul Tricarico, Jr., K

Despite the fact he tied a state record with 12 field goals this season, Tricarico only received All-FCIAC Western Division honors … Finished the season 12-for-17 on field goals, with a long of 48, and 37-for-38 on PATs, good for 73 points on the season … Needs 5 field goals next season to set a new state record for career FGs.

Will Newman, Sr., DL

An All-FCIAC First Team choice, the 6-2, 205-pound defensive end was second on the team in tackles, dragging down 99 ball carriers, 51 solo … Also had eight tackles for a loss and was co-leader with a team high five sacks on the season … Also had two pass deflections and recovered a pair of fumbles.

Evan Gilland, Jr., DL

An All-FCIAC First Team choice, Gilland was third on the team in tackles with 72 ...The 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive end was especially adept at getting into the backfield where 14 of those tackles came behind the line of scrimmage. Also had four sacks and 14 QB Hurries.

Nic Esposito, Sr., LB

A First-Team All-FCIAC selection, Esposito was the heart and soul of Staples defense from his linebacker slot. He led the Wreckers in tackles with 118. From those, 76 were solo tackles. He also had five sacks, which co-led the team. Additionally, he knocked down six passes and recovered five fumbles.

Ryan Fitton, Soph., P

Fitton averaged 38.9 yards per punt this season, pinning opponents inside the 20-yard line seven times ... His longest punt went for 68 yards … Was named an All-FCIAC First Team choice

Will Six, Sr.,

The Staples High School senior, who played wide receiver and defensive back, finished the season with 44 tackles, 8 passes deflected, and one fumble recovery on the defensive end of the ball. He also had a combined 363 yards in punt and kick off returns on the season.
